Culture and People of China.
Impact with China in 3, 2, 1.. Boum cultural chock, here you go.
At first, tourist might see that people eat different, wear different, kiss the trees in the park and love to chew their chicken feet while playing Majian in the park.
But they've just seen the surface of the iceberg and you are so because you will stay here couple of months, meet the people, work with them and live the history of growing China.
And hurry up because you are the last generation which can live it!
Don't misinterpret, it's all about respect:
In China behavior are different than ours and what you think to be a bad manner has actually a sense of deference. No hand shaking, no "good morning" at the beginning of the day.
Ok, sometimes there are some real bad manners but a gentleman traveller and forget about that. Whatever they try to overpass you at the queue, push you or speak too loud, do not forget about the 20 years china revolution, it has been tough for everybody here!
Working in China, is it all about Guangxi?
Guangxi means relation and is the favorite word used by foreigners a little bit lost in Chinese business world.
But like any country in the world, if you want to succeed in business you will not do it alone.
So multiple you connection, meet with people and keep in touch.
Two important points TO BE MENTIONED about Chinese business:
- To your partners/ Client: Chinese minds is more practical: Bring a small business right now rather than a big business tomorrow.
- Don't let your suppliers/ employees fool you, sad but true you need to be tought to get things done. Always…
China, The myth of hard workers.
In China two categorie of people are the most hard worker ever.
- Business owner: these might be your boss! Be aware that they will work non stop during the week end and late in the evening. Very late.
- People on the construction fields. They just have no life, it is sad to mention.
And on the contrary, rest of the population has a pretty much easy life. At least easy working hours. Normal Chinese employee will start 9 am and fininsh around 5pm and lunch break cannot be missed.
There is only 3 weeks official holidays thought.
Tips for the newbies in China.
China is probably one of the safest countries in the world, you can go out in the middle of the night, take transportation alone, go to non touristic place, it's safe. However we advise you to follow these elementary rules:
- Do not follow stranger or so called student who'd like to offer a drink or tea under the pretext they'd like to know more about your culture. They might be in touch with bar owners and the bill might be bankrupting!
- Even though nobody will do it in China, we advise to fasten your seat belt in taxi! If the driver has a dangerous driving, we advise you to stop and to change taxi. Make sure taxi drivers fully understand destination address; it might lead to big arguments. Keep the taxi receipt in case you lose something or have trouble.
- Do not drink water from tap! Even for your tea or coffee! Always drink bottle water.
- Always keep with you: Cell phone, keys, your address in Chinese and some money. Remember how to pronounce your address in Chinese.
- Always keep in mind that in China everything can be copied, do not spend too much money if you are not sure. Do not drink suspicious alcohol nor smoke strange cigarettes. Avoid buying concert or transportation tickets on the street. Black market is on your own risks.
- The end of validity of your Chinese visa doesn't mean you can stay until that date! You need to check when is your last entry and for how long.
- China has the hardest law in the world which means: No drugs, No fight, No steal.
